NIA Centre

Logo and Identity System, 2016

Most logos get replaced in three years. This one got trademarked.

The NIA Centre mark at institutional scale, drawn to carry a cultural center rather than a program.

Context

NIA Centre is Grand Rapids' African American cultural center, backed by the Kellogg and Wege foundations. The mark had to carry an institution, not a program.

What I did

I designed the identity and wrote the full guide: clear space rules, Pantone specifications, typography, and approved logo styles, so the mark stays correct in every application it lands in.

Outcome

Designed in 2016. Now a registered U.S. trademark, still in use a decade later.

Primary mark on its own, at the size it was drawn to hold.
Clear space and minimum size rules from the brand guide.
Pantone specifications and approved color pairings across the identity.
Approved logo styles page, covering every application the mark lands in.
The mark applied to signage at the centre entrance.
